Laura here from the On Point Events Team and welcome to another short video on destination highlights for Louisville, Kentucky, the location for the Kentucky Derby.
Located on the Ohio River and on the Indiana border, this city has a great combination of midwestern charm and southern hospitality. Louisville is known for it’s Bourbon distilleries, Muhammad Ali birthplace, Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory, and the biggest attraction of them all is Churchill Downs, the racetrack for the Kentucky Derby.
Horse racing in Kentucky is rich in history, dating back to 1789 when the first race course was laid out in Lexington. However, it was almost a hundred years later in 1875, that Churchill Downs officially opened and began its tradition as Home of the Kentucky Derby. Churchill Downs currently holds the record for the longest running, continuous sport event in the United States.
