Mia here from the On Point Events Team and welcome to another short video on destination highlights for Qatar, the location for the World Cup in 2022. Qatar’s capital Doha will be the center point for the Tournament. With over 80% of the population located in Doha, this city is rich in a wide array of cultures, and beautiful scapes of both desert and ocean. Doha has long been known to long-haul travelers as a transit hub between East and West, but more recently it has become the hot new destination, famous for its art, food, and culture.
Some of the top sites to see in Doha are the Souq Waqif, a vibrant market redeveloped to look the part of a 19th-century souq, with mud-rendered shops and exposed timber beams, plus some authentic and beautifully restored original Qatari buildings. Other experiences that are a must is exploring the Dunes, Located just outside the city, and watching the camel races. Due to the majority of the country being immigrants, you can expect the food scene to be eccentric with a mix of Lebanese, Yemeni, and Indian cuisine.
The most unique part of this World Cup is due to the country being small, each of the 8 stadiums are very close together. The longest distance to a stadium from Doha is less than an hour. That means more matches can be seen, and more time to soak up all that Qatar has to offer.
