New York Fashion Week is a major fashion industry event, lasting approximately one week, which allows fashion designers or houses to display their latest collections in runway shows and buyers to take a look at the latest trends. Most importantly, it informs the industry as to what’s in and what’s out for the season. The most prominent fashion weeks are held in the fashion capitals of Milan, London, New York City, and Paris. New York has held the event twice a year in Bryant Park, an 8-acre park that gets temporarily converted into an enormous fashion arena with air-conditioned white tents.

about the New York Fashion Week and new york city
Eleanor Lambert, press director of the New York Dress Institute, America’s first promotional organization, created the New York Fashion Week in 1943.
The NY Fashion Week, previously called “Press Week,” was the world’s first organized fashion week and was established to divert attention away from French fashion during the Second World War, when traveling to Paris to see French fashion shows was not feasible
The event was also created to showcase the work of American designers for fashion journalists, who at the time, neglected U.S. fashion innovations.
The success of Press Week became clear when Fashion magazines like Vogue, which normally featured French designs, started to highlight more American fashion.
Press Week started to become known as the “Press Week of New York” by the mid-1950s. The event has undergone numerous organizational and name transitions but the modern notion of a centralized “New York Fashion Week” was created by The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) in 1993
After the NY Fashion Week lost Bryant Park and later Lincoln Center as its hosting site, the event was no longer held in a single central location. The venues for NYFW have included a former post office, a waterfront carnival, and converted railway terminals.
Today, NYFW is held yearly every February and September. It is recognized as one of the major fashion weeks in the world, known as the “Big 4.” The other recognized events are those in Paris, London, and Milan.
The City of New York, NYC, or simply New York is an ever-changing blend of hustle, heart, glamour, and grit. It’s a city that is never the same for any two individuals from one moment to the next.
New York is the most populated city of the United States and has been described as the financial, cultural, and media capital of the world. This fast-paced city exerts an important impact on entertainment commerce, research, education, technology, politics, tourism, art, sports, and fashion.
